Special Screening: "The Hurt Locker"

"The Hurt Locker" is a riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military's unrecognized heroes: the technicians of a bomb squad who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives doing one of the world's most dangerous jobs. Three members of the Army's elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad battle insurgents and one another as they search for and disarm a wave of roadside bombs on the streets of Baghdad, in order to make the city a safer place for Iraqis and Americans alike. Special Screening: "The White Ribbon" ("Das Weisse Band")

This is the story of a village in Protestant northern Germany in 1913-14, the eve of World War I. The film follows the children and teenagers in a choir run by the village schoolteacher, and their families: the baron, the steward, the pastor, the doctor, the midwife and the tenant farmers. Screening: "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire"

Set in Harlem in 1987, this is the story of Claireece "Precious" Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a 16-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. She's pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her abusive mother (Mo'Nique). However, beneath Precious' impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an unshakable sense that other possibilities exist for her. When Precious transfers to an alternative school, she begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination. Artist Marilyn Minter Lecture

Famed artist Marilyn Minter seems to be the name on everyones lips these days. Madonna bought the artists Green Pink Caviar video as a backdrop for her Sticky and Sweet tour and MAC enlisted her to create works using the cosmetic firms fall pigments. Minter has also collaborated with artist Wangechi Mutu in a series of photographs depicting Mutu as a sensual golden goddess, and actress Pamela Anderson became her muse for the centerfold of the Swiss art magazine Parkett. Minter also lent a film still of her now hallmark luscious pink lips with a protruding golden tongue for an exclusive tote bag available at Intermix, with proceeds going toward the breast and ovarian cancer nonprofit group Bright Pink. This event is part of deFINE ART fine arts festival.

Lecture: "Thomas Jefferson's Continued Pursuit of Architectural Happiness"

After his retirement from public life, Thomas Jefferson continued to pursue happiness and delight through architecture, including Poplar Forest, an idealistic villa retreat of his own inspiration. Today, after extensive research and restoration, this work sheds more light on Jefferson's creative genius and body of work as an architect. Travis McDonald has directed the restoration of Poplar Forest since 1989 and serves on many historic preservation advisory boards. Through earlier positions as chief historical architect of the National Park Service and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, McDonald has been involved with numerous historic building assessments and restorations. SCADDY Awards Ceremony

SCAD presents the 2010 SCADDY Awards, one of the United States' largest college-level advertising competitions. A panel of advertising professionals, including best-selling author and copywriter Luke Sullivan, review submissions across more than 10 disciplines including advertising, graphic design, illustration, photography and animation. At the ceremony, SCAD will present awards in 26 categories. SCADDY Award-winning work goes on to be entered into the ADDY Awards, one of the advertising industry's largest international competitions.
